The authors present an interesting relationship between communication and cultural and modern values in Malaysia. Communication has taken a new paradigm shift for organizations, especially in the education sector. Cultures are formed through communication as an important element in human life that cannot separate from each other. Communication education focuses on the teaching of communication as an academic discipline, including topics such as curriculum and assessment. Communication is the element that maintains and sustains relationships between educators and students. The authors could see the need for communication education as a must as in the modern era. Things have been mixing as the online world is easy to access and expose about other cultures.
Modern technology has completely converted both industrialized societies and developing societies and lends a new dimension to the possibilities for exchange and communication which determine their evolution. With that, Malaysian Higher Education has executed the education 4.0 program in line with the 4th industrial revolution. The program is aimed at providing graduates with the capabilities and competencies required by the digital-driven industry.
I do fully support the authors that as part of education 4.0, the teaching and learning pattern will not only be merely based on exams but also focusing on the practical and experimental learning-based projects or fieldwork that is suited for future employment. Learners should be examined based in real-time according to their performance when they work on projects in the field instead of being examined based on memorization capacity. Education in Malaysia has to change according to modernism in the 21st century. The usage of modern technologies such as electronic gadgets is easier than using the traditional way of communicating with people. Face-to-face communication is getting less.
The authors emphasize the importance of sensitivity of communication, for instance, the different cultural values as one of the obstacles in the communication process. As Malaysia is a multi-racial and multi-cultural country, everyone should be extra cautious with the various cultures so that the communication can be sustained and not be an issue as an argument. It is crucial to foster unity among all races, cultures, and religions.
Overall, the article is well written as the crucial message is for Malaysia to improve the education system to be competitive countries in the world. Therefore, the Malaysian Ministry of Education needs to provide adequate facilities to learning institutions for them to utilize technology 4.0 effectively. Policymakers need to play a vital role by making the use of the latest technology 4.0 in the teaching and learning process by educators is mandatory.
